The Success of Goodwill Industries in Washington

Goodwill Industries of Greater Washington DC was created in 1935 by social worker Elizabeth Murray along with six other community leaders. It took five years to establish, but the dream of helping people via a local Goodwill Industries organization was finally a reality in the nation’s capital. Legally, the charity goes by the name of the Davis Memorial Goodwill Industries. This is because of a 0,000 donation made by Anne Hubbard Davis in 1939.

Today, they are most celebrated for the many events they organize, such as an annual book sale, which has been endorsed by celebrities including Barbara Bush, and for the Annual Embassy Tours. They’re also becoming known for their Fashion of Goodwill Campaign, which insists “It’s not your grandmother’s closet” at Goodwill of Greater Washington.

Speaking of clothes and fashion, it’s items like clothes, couches and cars being donated that allow organizations like Goodwill Industries to thrive all over

Visiting America’s Top National Parks

Living here in America, we have the opportunity to visit hundreds of national parks each year. Some are parks that you can drive through in a day, and others may take a few days to take in all the sights. Below are the top five national parks that have been visited in the past year across the U.S.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park

In 2008, over 9 million tourists visited the park  in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to tour the “hiker’s paradise”. When you can visit nature and enjoy wildlife from bears to salamanders for FREE, is it no wonder that so many people got out to visit the park.

One of the best places to visit is Cade’s Cove. This is a “U”-shaped, eleven mile, one lane and one way road situated within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Although it is a short distance, it is possible to take up to three hours to travel. When wildlife is sighted, like a bear, which is common, the line of cars stops to admire the cute but very dangerous

Although, there’s positive news for Seattle Washington real estate owners: Seattle is among 27 markets with high housing value gains since 2003. The Seattle Times reports that the Bellevue-Everett-Seattle real estate area saw a 54.9% appreciation over the past five years.

In a national survey, 52% of real estate agents said they expected the market to bottom out in 2009. Another 16.5% expected the bottom to fall out in 2010 and 7% thought it has already leveled off in their areas. “If we had to pick three states in the country that are large states and where property prices really haven’t declined very much and employment has held up, the three states that would fit that criteria would be Texas, North Carolina and Washington State,” explained survey designer
